Dance funding – crowdsourcing

Most people, at least most dance companies by now, have heard of sites like Kickstarter. The concept of crowdfunding, as it is known, is to raise money through small contributions via the internet, both from sources known and generous strangers looking to share some of their hard-earned cash. In these uncertain economic times, funding for the arts is even more precarious to come by and turning the greater masses for support is a smart move. The good news is that recent legislation has opened the doors to even greater uses for crowdfunding as a source of fundraising for both projects and businesses. CNN featured an article recently talking about these changes and highlighting eight sites that can be used raise funds.  I thought this was well worth sharing with the dance community as we search for ways to pay for our passion and creativity.
