La Diego Dance Theater

Tell us briefly about your dance company and its underlying philosophy?

LaDiego Dance Theater is a contemporary dance company located in San Diego, CA. My idea when starting the company was to bring dance back to dance which means no gimmicks or stunts we dance for the pure joy of it. The company evokes the Passion, Power and Beauty in all that they do.

What piece will you be performing at Celebrate Dance 2012?

The company will be performing a Los Angeles Premier called “D-Minor”. This is a contemporary ballet piece with flowing tutus, twirls, leaps and turns.

What do you hope to evoke in the audience with your piece?

I would hope the audience will be on the edge of their seats watching and wanting to jump on-stage and dance themselves.

How did you hear about Celebrate Dance and become involved with the show?

I submitted work in 2011 for the 2012 Celebrate Dance. I immediately received an email, facebook and phone message asking if I had a closer for the 2011 Celebrate Dance (This was a week before the show). We were prepared and ready to go! A couple of days later I received a phone call saying crisis(whatever is was) was adverted. Myself and Associate Artistic Director (Aliyah Hassan) were invited to attend the performance and during the Pre-Show reception we were one of (if not ) the first to be  asked to participate.

Any words of advice or inspiration for other dancers and choreographers?

I encourage people to create honest work and be true to yourself when creating. There is room for everyone is this world so be you, and be free.
