Santa Barbara – ADaPT Festival (call for submissions)

June 7, 2010

For performance groups looking for a new opportunity to be seen and meet fellow dancers, I’d like to announce the inaugural SB-ADaPT (A Dance and Physical Theater) Festival in 2011. This new festival takes place June 16 -19, 2011 in the sunny coastal town of Santa Barbara, CA. They will be accepting applications starting in a week. In additional to performance opportunities, there will be master classes, a film screening and networking galore.

The festival is self described as:

“The SB-ADaPT Festival provides artists that attend the opportunity to perform in a fully produced show in a fabulous venue in front of great audiences. An experienced team of volunteer producers (SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre Co-Artistic Director Misa Kelly and Kim T. Davis) are taking on the production tasks necessary to get the audiences there, make sure the tech runs smoothly & produce a stellar show. Additionally they will organize all of the master classes and supplementary events.

This Festival is unique in that rather than simply providing an opportunity to perform one’s work we have placed a high value on artistic growth and building community. We’ve built in components into the Festival that will provide the artists the opportunity to be challenged, grow as creative beings, be invigorated, rejuvenated and inspired.”

Here are a few of the many benefits for artists:

1. The opportunity to perform in a fully produced show in a fabulous venue in front of great audiences!

2. An experienced group of producers will take on producing the event liberating artists to dig deep and fully enjoy the process.

3. Artists will have the opportunity to be challenged, grow as a creative beings, be refreshed, rejuvenated and inspired!

4. Festival Participants will be able to create connections that could lead to exciting performance opportunities in different venues in different parts of the country (and hopefully the world.)

5. They will be offered free master classes & ½ price tickets to matinee performances.

6. We’ll be hosting a FREE complimentary Continental Breakfast welcome.

7. We’ll also be hosting a complimentary “Shop Talk” Reception.

8. Great press exposure!

9. Professional video documentation ($25 per DVD, $5 for postage and handling per DVD.)

10. They’ll receive free mentoring and feedback about their work from an exceptional panel of artists from a broad range of disciplines if they so desire.

11. They’ll have a chance to spend time in one of the most beautiful places on the planet – and we know all the secret spots for great hikes, eats, and picnics at the beach.

The organizers seem focused on making this event supportive and valuable to the participating groups. By emphasizing opportunities for artists to meet and connect with one another, with the hopeful effect of encouraging groups to produce collaborate and learn from each other instead of creating dance and movement arts in a vacuum.
